A minute’s silence was held in memory of Neville Williams before the game kicked off. Aberavon Green Stars kicked off the first league game of the season. Within a couple of minutes they were awarded and kicked a penalty to give them an early 3-0 lead. Soon after following a free kick close to Aberavon Green Stars’ line, captain Rob Clive forced himself over with some help from the other forwards to score a try. Steff Rees’ conversion gave Cwmgors a 3-7 lead, which they held until half time. Cwmgors had most of territorial advantage in the first half.
In the second half, Cwmgors extended their lead, following some good play by both backs and forwards. Rob Clive touched down for second try after he was driven over the line again with the help of his fellow forwards. Steff Rees converted to make it 3 -14. Aberavon Green Stars struck back with a try and conversion of their own after taking advantage of an overlap on their left wing. Within 10 minutes they had taken the lead, this time crossing over for a try wide out on the right. The conversion made it 17-14. With time running out it looked as if we would have to settle for a losing bonus point, but with almost the last move of the game, Steff Rees saw a gap and made a break to cross over for a try, which he converted. From the restart the ball was collected by Cwmgors, and kicked out to end the match.

Cwmgors, kicked off playing with the wind at their backs. Pencoed raced into a 12 point lead with two tries in the first quarter of an hour, converting the second, a penalty try. At that point in the game it looked as if Pencoed would race away with the match. However, with some good scramble defence, Cwmgors managed to stem the flow, and after a period of pressure from the home side, Cerith Dennard, with the help of several other forwards, forced himself over just before half-time to make the score 5-12 at the interval.
Early in the second-half, a good passage of play, with the ball being passed along the back-line, saw Mike Hodges find a gap to cross over to score, making it 10-12. The strong Pencoed pack was exerting a great deal of pressure, and midway through the half they were rewarded with a try following a strong scrum. The conversion made it 10-19. Just before the final whistle, Cwmgors were awarded a penalty near the halfway line. Unfortunately the distance and wind proved too much, and we were denied a bonus point.

Maesteg Celtic kicked off the game, but it was Cwmgors who applied the early pressure. However, Maesteg Celtic won the ball near their own line, and spread it wide where the they had an overlap. Their winger managed to run almost the length of the field and crossed over in the corner. The conversion made it 0-7 to the visitors with less than 5 minutes played. They extended their lead with two more tries, the first of which they converted, to give them a 0-19 lead midway through the first half. Just before half-time they extended their lead to 0-22 with a penalty.
Cwmgors restarted the match, with a much improved performance. They scored a try through Dylan Hills, converted by Steff Rees to make the score 7-22 early in the second half. Unfortunately, a speculative kick by Cwmgors bounced favourably for the Maesteg Celtic fullback who took the ball running flat out, rounding the Cwmgors players chasing the kick, and scoring under the posts. The conversion made it 7-29. Cwmgors didn’t give in, and were now in the visitors half of the field more often. A driving maul saw Iwan Davies cross over, and the conversion from Caron Jones made it 14-23. Although there was over 10 minutes to go, there was no further score.

Although there was a strong wind blowing across the field, thankfully, rain stayed away. Cwmgors kicked off this eagerly awaited match. Brynaman were first to score with a penalty, almost 20 minutes into the game. Cwmgors scored next when No. 8 Dylan Hills broke from a scrum, and fed scrum-half Caron Jones to score an unconverted try in the corner. Brynaman regained the lead with another penalty. The 5-6 score remained unchanged for the remainder of the half.
The second half was similar to the first. Both sides showed glimpses of good play, but errors and some good defence prevented tries. Brynaman extended their lead to 5-12 with another two penalties. With a quarter of an hour to go, they scored an unconverted try to make the score 5-17, and take the losing bonus point away from Cwmgors.

The game kicked off by Aberavon Quins, with the wind at their backs, playing towards Tairgwaith. Aberavon Quins had the best of the opening encounters, but missed a couple of kickable penalties. They had considerable luck in scoring their try. The Quins kicked the ball long, and it rolled over the try line. A bad bounce and a slip from a Cwmgors player, saw them fall on the ball. The conversion made it 0-7. They extended the lead with another penalty to make it 0-10, before Steff Rees droped a goal to reduce the defecate to 7 points. However, a series of mistakes from the restart gave the Quins another penalty to make it 3-13, which remained unchanged until half-time.
The second half remained pointless for over 30 minutes, but Cwmgors never gave up. Steff Rees kicked his first penalty of the season to make the score 6-13. With only a few minutes remaining, Cwmgors were awarded a penalty in a kickable position. They went for the touchline, and won the resulting lineout. Their enterprise was rewarded when the Cwmgors pack eventually drove over the line, with replacement hooker Carwyn Williams being awarded with the try. The conversion from Steff Rees drew the scores even.

The game kicked off by a much changed Cwmgors side, playing towards the road. The visitors took an early 0-3 lead with a penalty from Richard Greig. Neath Athletic levelled the score a few minutes later with a penalty of their own, and soon after went ahead with another penalty. Cwmgors took the lead after a good drive from the forwards saw Cerith Dennard crossing over for a try. Cwmgors looked as if they would score another try in a similar manner on the stroke of halftime. Neath Athletic pulled the maul down, resulting in a yellow card for the player responsible. Cwmgors were awarded a penalty. It could well have been a penalty try. Cwmgors opted for a 5m scrum, but this was refused by the referee. He said there was no time left! Cwmgors had to take the kick, which Richard Greig put over to make it 6 – 11.
Neath Athletic kicked off the second half, and we had to wait for 15 minutes for the first score. Lloyd Watson gathered a kick just inside his own half, and returned it to score under the posts. The conversion from Richard Greig made it 6-18. Most of the play was in the Neath Athletic half. Cwmgors came close to crossing over several times, not least when a scrum looked to pushing the Neath Athletic pack over wheeled. The referee awrded the put in at the reset to the home side. With 2 minutes of normal time left, Neath Athletic crossed over for an unconverted try, and with the score 14-18, were making a comeback. Ten minutes into injury time, they scored another unconverted try to make the score 19-18. The restart saw the ball go into touch, and the referee blew for the final whistle.

The game was kicked off by promotion seekers Pencoed, abd it was they who opened the with a converted try 15 minutes into the game. From the kick-off Cwmgors managed to regain possession. A Pencoed player went for an interception and appeared to knock the ball forward, but the referee played on, and as a result, Pencoed scored their second try, which went unconverted. Cwmgors replied with a try from wing Gavin Madge. The Cwmgors forwards won the ball in the Pencoed 22, and a long pass from Steff Rees found the wing who dashed over in the corner. Pencoed scored a converted try early in the second half. However, Cwmgors did not cave in and held second place Pencoed at bay before scoring the try of the game. Lloyd Watson having moved to play at outside half put centre Jordan Davies through a gap with a well timed pass. Davies made some good ground before giving Watson a return pass to run in for the try. The conversion from Caron Jones made it 26-14. The final try of the game came at full time. Cwmgors were trying to run everything to try to get a bonus point, but a handling error in their own 22 was pounced on by Pencoed, and resulted in a converted try, to make the final score 33-14.

On a typical windy Maerdy the game was kicked off by Maesteg, playing with the elements, towards Tairgwaith. Within a minute they were awarded a penalty, which they kicked to open the scoring. Their next score came from a Cwmgors mix-up, in their own 22. With the conversion, and a penalty shortly afterwards, Maesteg had raced to a 13 point lead. Their next try, also contained an element of luck. A Cwmgors kick was blocked and, with the help of the strong wind, ricocheted over the line, with a Maesteg player winning the race for the touchdown. The conversion was missed. Cwmgors were next to score. They had secured field position the Maesteg 22, and some good driving work by the forwards was finished off by Iwan ‘Pike’ Davies. Steff Rees kicked the conversion. On the stroke of halftime, another lucky try for Maesteg. A good break by their backs was seemed to have been stopped, but the ball after being hacked through rebounded off the post, and the referee gave Maesteg a try, despite what seemed to be a knock-on. The conversion gave Maesteg a 25-7 halftime lead.
Cwmgors, playing with the elements in the second-half were frequently in the Maesteg 22, but not able to score until almost mid-way through the half. Neath Athletic kicked off playing towards Tairgwaith, with a strong breeze at their backs. Five minutes into the game they opened the scoring with a penalty. Despite Neath Athletic using the wind to keep the pressure on Cwmgors, the home side defended well. Eventually, the visitors crossed wide on the right to score an unconverted try. Almost immediately, Cwmgors replied when Gareth Amos was driven across the line, and an excellent kick into the wind by Steff Rees added the extra points. Unfortunately, Cwmgors were unable to prevent a second Neath Athletic try, almost in the same place as their first on the stroke of halftime, to give the visitors a 7 – 13 lead.
With the help of the wind in the second-half, it was Cwmgors’ turn to apply the pressure. Three penalties from Steff Rees, two from long range, gave Cwmgors the lead with 25 minutes of the game to go. Despite both sides coming close, neither were able to cross the line in the second-half, and the game ended Cwmgors 16 Neath Athletic 13.
